FEBRUARY 20, 2010 - Lake Istokpoga

The Southpasco Dinkmasters fished Lake Istokpoga on February 20th and we caught another mother lode of fish, a whopping 11 fish for a total weight of 21.85 lbs.

Last month we caught less than that so I guess we're improving.

I know the weather's been bad, I know the water's cold and I know the fish are all screwed up…but let's be honest:

WE SUCK

Akridge said he had a bunch of bites (course he has no one to verify that fairy tale) and he was the only guy who actually weighed in more than 1 fish so I guess I'd have to say he slayed em. Mike jumped up to 4th place in YTD and got a 2nd place check so not all was lost for Mike. And I heard Mike finished 2nd a couple weeks ago up at Rousseau, so guess we better keep an eye on Mike. Oh, because of the large number of fish and the fact he was the only guy who fished by himself, we had him take a Polygraph test and those results should be in next week. I put a hold on his check till then.

We did have a "streak" stay alive though……let's see we had 1 zero…who it was, is irrelevant….let's guess whose boat it was! Um, Captain Zero?????? I believe that's like 5 consecutive Zero's from the Non-Boater in a row (regular season) I think Tony actually caught fish off Matt's boat in the Classic....it's like the Bermuda Triangle back there! Matt did catch 1 fish and holds 9th place.

I got to fish with Derek and I didn't do much better getting him on any fish but he did manage 1 keeper and actually is in 10th place in YTD standings… If you want a good partner and an enjoyable day Derek's your guy….and he can fish…flip, pitch, rattle trap, Carolina rig…just point the boat, he'll do the rest…Thanks for a great day Derek…and super job on the net….By the way that lunch I provided for you was $25.50…I know that might sound like a lot, but there ain't no McDonalds out there that I saw…!!!

Our other rookie cracked the scales this year and is also in the Top Ten in YTD standings…I thought Miguel would use his patented "wacky rig senko" but he just smiled and said, nah ,not this time…but at this point any fish weighed in is important, so good job Miguel….and nice job stealing Derek's lunch…

The Polar Bear and Sandman teamed up this week and at least can make claim to a couple of the guys who haven't zeroed in either of the first two events. Somehow Blanchard found out about the "skinny dipper" bite (figure he and Blake stayed down there pre-fishing so locals must have tipped him off. He and Blake caught some fish Friday but they were gone Saturday) Anyway Mike holds on to 4th place in YTD and Blake keeps a share of 1st place with his single yesterday…

Double B sit's in 7th position YTD after his whopping 1.24 pounder thumped the scale. Hey Billy, what address do I send my bill to for the "road call" battery jump and charge? Double B got his engine going but he never got his fish catching going and had to settle for a single, but yesterday, that was pretty good.

Pops Drew....seeing you whip your son makes my day…let's just say you basically doubled his catch so please take it easy because we don't want to lose any more members. I heard you had to hitch a ride home! Pops is only 1 point out of the top 10 and only 5 behind son Matt which is more important… Good job Roy… now just pray you don't draw Matt! Oh and one last thing! Your get the patented Suck Spot…4th …no dough for you!

Nick Barone got drunk and couldn't make it but his karma was still there for Medvid. The Vampire eaked out a 3rd place check because of Nick. Around 1:30 John was staring at his 2nd straight zero, reached into his bag, pulled out one of those ridiculous silly slugs Nick gave him and thumped a 1.76 pounder that gave him gas money. (well almost) The Vampire also lurks in 5th place in YTD standings and now is setting his sights on Lake Toho in March.

Well, I'm maintaining my blistering pattern of 1 bite and 1 fish per event, although my bite yesterday was a good one…Actually I probably ran that bait past her…snagged her in the tail and she got so mad she nipped at it and 1 hook actually stayed in her mouth.. She got me 1st place, big bass, and gave us a mark to shoot for. Lady luck was on my side because for whatever reason she never came out of the water…was only in 3 feet of water and had she shook, that trap woulda came out…Nice job by my partner netting her…was only gonna get that one swipe at her…thanks Derek. ..and yes Matt is was a rattle trap…I know you don't believe it so if you want to think it was that swim bait I showed you, that's fine with me.

I also want to thank the BFL for having that event yesterday so Joe and Norm didn't fish Istokpoga. By the way those guys actually drew each other out of 142 boats…( what's the chances of that?) and they both caught 7-8 lbs….Heard it was tough at Kissimmee also but it still took 27#'s to win….imagine that. That guy caught more than our CLUB yesterday.

Well on to Toho in March…..if we don't do better I suggest we fish in April for crappie or as you rednecks call them specks.
