FEBRUARY 19, 2011 - Harris Chain of Lakes

I would like to welcome back team Drew and Drew along with Stephen Sockwell who will be teaming up with Wayne Johnson. I would like to thank Tom Mahoney for taking the time to inform and answer any questions regarding BASS. We now have 8 members that are signed up with BASS Federation Nation and have submitted the clubs application for BASS Federation Nation affiliation.

Well it looks like the South Pasco Harris Chain curse is still in tack. Everything was in place, full moon, warming temperature, and water temperatures in the mid 60's. So what went wrong? The bass didn't get out of bed? Did they forget to make their beds? I was told by other clubs on the same lake that caught 28 pounds of bass and they saw all the fish before they caught them on the beds, that was from Sandy's Bait and Tackle tournament. I know my eyes aren't the best but I had my partner with me to confirm we didn't see one bed.

Could you imagine what our results would have been if we didn't have those exemption cards!!!!! Good job Derek, keep those cards comin. So here is what happened, team Norm and Bud put it all on the line fishing the canals and the bedding bass but just wasn't in the right canals at the right time and came up empty. Team Billy and Allie couldn't keep the fry off the hook and came up short and so were the fish they caught. Team Matt and John are too new and have an excuse for now and now know they are a perfect fit for South Pasco as they managed to put in a long day and only came away with a tan.

The Sockwell/Johnson team managed to get on the board with one fish weighing 1.15 pounds.

Team Drew, minus one Drew caught 2 bass weighing 2.75 pounds.

I don't think it would have made a difference if Team Puertos/Tyler came in 2 hours late on this lake, but did manage to come in on time but only had 2 fish to show for it weighing 2.92 pounds.

Team Medvid/Lovell went in the canals and managed to clean up after everyone else left. We caught fish at the very end of just about every canal we went into. We couldn't figure out the pattern as we caught fish on black/gold trap, junebug nickslug, watermelon and pumpkin flukes but it didn't really matter as we only brought 3 to the scale weighing 2.99 pounds and finishing fourth. Once again, thank you exemption cards.

Not putting a fish in the boat until the afternoon was team Akridge/Ashman. Mike held out on the best spot for last. Having the confidence that he as going to catch bigger fish and releasing a 3 pounder at the boat but not on purpose. I think it was a mudfish! They were one of the two that managed to catch a limit of 5 weighing 8.08 pounds.

And taking it to the bank for the first time ever, was team Peralta/Doyne. They never cashed in at a tournament, which goes to show, if you join South Pasco anything is possible. Following some information they heard at the meeting regarding junebug they were the second team with a limit weighing 8.97 pounds.

Now as they say even a blind nut finds a squirrel!!! Using a pink, blue, chartreuse, with green, junebug white flake skirt a hard/soft chatter rap with 100 lb flaming orange braided line or was that the outfit you were wearing at the bar that night? The DeCaro team brought a 7.75 pounder to the scale to capture big bass combined with a couple of her babies to bring a total of 4 weighing 10.73 pounds and first place. I'm sure Mark owes it all to his good luck charm, his partner. Actually the big bass was caught on a topwater frog. Nice job DeCaros.

As a reminder, we changed March's tournament to Lake Toho from Johns Lake due to the BASS state qualifier. We are good for April as there is no qualifier that month but May is another problem as the qualifier on Kissimmee is the same date we have our tournament on Tarpon, so we have to make a decision if we want to possibly change the date and location for our May tournament to earlier in the month but we will discuss that at our next meeting. The last qualifier is on Harris again, and I wonder if we really want to fish Harris twice this year. The only chance we will have to pre fish Harris will be in August and I'm told that Harris is just terrible in the summer months. Wow! Imagine that!!!!!

So until next time when we meet and try to put that elusive puzzle together and try to figure why we aren't catching those 10 pounders, stay safe and NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!

John Medvid
