John's Lake, September 2008, a new lake that the club never fished, proved to be a challenge. There was a variety of cover, depth and clarity. Members prefished and told of all the dinks that they found. A cell phone photo from the prefish proved there was evidence of some nice fish in this lake. The weather cooperated and the hurricane passed Florida for Texas and took the winds and the rain with it, but alas there still were only two members with limits.
Leading the field was Ken Willis with a first place limit weighing 8.48 pounds and big bass of 3.33 pounds. Norm Soash also limited his way to second place totaling 6.21 pounds and third went to the dink master (not this time) Mike Akridge with 4.92 pounds.
We heard of the big fish in this lake and we wouldn't have believed it if we didn't see it. There was another club that was weighing in the same time as us. There was a nice bass that was 8+ pounds that didn't make it back to the lake and a couple in the 6 pound range.
As we approach the end of another season, we would like to get a head start on 2009. We are going to form a tournament committee after the October meeting, if you want a say in the lakes we fish next year, hang around after the meeting. We will be handing out the applications for 2009. We have to have the money in for FLW/FBF early December for 2009. If you plan to fish one of the FBF qualifiers this would get your membership in on time. For those of you that think you have it I recommend you give it a try. We have the opportunity see what it is like to fish for some real big money and fish against some real good competition and only two members have done so. This is one of the reasons why we are affiliated with FLW so let's try to take advantage of it in 2009.
